The Exploration Game is Afoot
What does my quarry look like?
It's hard to find oil and gas thousands of feet beneath the earth's surface. It's even harder if you aren't sure what it should look like. Enter the forward model. We use what we know and a bit of math to create a picture of what we expect the seismic data to look like for a hydrocarbon reservoir.
Why use lousy data to look for it?
All seismic data can be improved and tailored to be fit for purpose for any prospect. Contractors do a great job collecting and processing massive amounts of data, but they don't know where your prospect is and therefore can't pay particular attention to your area. Voila! Data conditioning. You can focus data improvement on the location of your prospect or an analogy to understand and demonstrate similarity or difference.
